While people in the northern hemisphere are delighted by the arrival of Spring, I’m equally delighted at the arrival of autumn down here in New Zealand. I love autumn, it’s definitely my favourite month.
I love the settled weather, the lingering of the last of the sunshine, the colours and the general slowing down as we move into winter.
I sat drinking coffee at one of my favourite cafes this morning, writing and trying to recall any autumn memories from childhood. Then a sudden rush of times gone by hit me. I was sitting not too far from a rather vivid autumn leaf memory. You can read about it here.
So, whether you’re moving into Spring or Autumn, celebrate the moment. Enjoy each season for what it is.
So many people tell me there life is not worth recording, they’ve never done anything interesting that others may want to read. Of course, I tell them that is absolute nonsense. No one else knows our life as we do. What seems ordinary to us seems fascinating to others. That is why it is important to get your stories written down.
As I go about my research for my latest writing project I’m grateful that people in the past have recorded their everyday stories, so that every day details are not lost. In the future someone may be grateful to you for writing your stories down. Even the smallest details may prove to be informative or interesting to someone in the years to come.
Why not start writing down your stories today?
It seems I’ve been in hibernation, but really I’ve been working full-time. Nothing like a stressful day to kill creativity. However, life changes and now I find myself with time to write my stories again. So it’s back to work on my next book, plenty of time, doesn’t have to be finished till late next year.
I’m getting excited about the prospect of researching and writing again. Life is looking up.
After many months of being undecided about what I want to do in my life and making a few decisions for the wrong reasons I’ll soon be back writing on a daily basis. Another five weeks and I can call myself a writer again. I’ll be back to writing my stories and helping you write yours.
Sometimes I guess we need to try something before we realise it’s not what we really want to do. That has certainly been the case for me over the last year. Now l want to return to writing and working on my many unfinished projects.
The story of the rest of my life is just beginning.
